What is the "Roswell Survivor Project"?

Roswell Survivor (noun) -

A dog or cat that makes it out the Roswell, NM Animal shelter alive

The sad fact, is that many dogs and cats that enter into the Roswell, NM shelter never make it out alive. Due to overcrowding, every single year/month/week, wonderful and loving animals are euthanized. Puppies, seniors, large, and small... no dog is exempt from the euthanasia list when their time has run out.

In 2019, our first group of "Roswell Survivors" made their way to the PNW. They were a group of 5 dogs that were all set to be euthanized on the Monday following Thanksgiving weekend. With their fate seemingly sealed and their deaths impending, we made the offer to somehow figure out a way to get these dogs to the PNW to give them a chance to live. With that, our role was established and the partnership was formed!

Since then, our community has grown and we now partner with many WA rescues. More lives are saved each year, than we ever dreamed possible. The dogs that travel to WA with each monthly transport, are dogs that otherwise would have undoubtably died due to lack of space and time at the Roswell shelter.

The community of #RoswellSurvivors continues to grow in WA state as more people realize how fulfilling it is to be directly responsible for saving a life!

Q: What sort of dogs are rescued from Roswell?

All kinds!!! We see literally all sorts of dogs in need of rescue. If you're interested in fostering or adopting but looking for some specific traits (size, age, breed, sex, personality, good with cats or kids...) we can help you find the dog you seek!

We do like to joke that all of the dogs all do have a bit of extraterrestrial in them though!

Q: How can I stay up to date on dogs in need and future transports?

The best way to stay up to date is by following us on our Instagram @RoswellSurvivorProject

Our most frequent updates regarding events, upcoming transports, rescue partner updates, adoption announcements, and new faces in need of help are all shared there daily!

Why are the dogs you rescue, on the "Euth-list"?

It's a misconception that dogs listed for euthanasia have behavioral or health problems. Nearly ALL the dogs on the "euth-list" in Roswell have simply run out of time (and the shelter has run out of space). In fact, it's very common for litters of puppies to be euthanized simply due to lack of space....

The dogs that we save have all been tested with humans and other dogs to ensure they are friendly.

They are also up-to date on vaccines and given a vet inspection.

Any dogs with health concerns or behavioral issues (such as dog-selectivity) are listed as such.
